Taxing the Feudal Lords is the need of the hour

According to modern political economics the four factors of production are land, labor, capital and entrepreneurship. It means that land is the base for other factors of production. It means that no land no life. Unfortunately we inherited a piece of land on earth in form of Pakistan badly engulfed by giant landlords. Here it would be pertinent to quote Bhagat Singh, who had rightly stated that, "When our white lords will quit India the browns will replace them and we will never be independent in letter and spirit". Bhagat Sing was cent percent right as we are still in a war of survival since our independence till date. The root cause of all our economic problems is the feudal class. If we claim our state as Islamic Republic we are wrong because we are neither Islamic nor Republic.

If we claim that we are an Islamic Republic then we should have  been adopted the Islamic economic system viz we should have an strong system of Zakat and Ushur. According to Islamic economic system Zakat is collected from the rich class to give poor class of the state through  Bait-ul-Mall and Ushur is collected at the rate of ten percent on agricultural produce and is deposited on the state exchequer viz Bait-ul-Mall to meet the requirements of the state. Are we legitimate in our claim to call our beloved Pakistan an Islamic Republic? The answer if definitely in no. Now, what about the second what of the phrase "Islamic Republic" ?

According to Google Dictionary, Republic means; a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch. And, in this context again we not fulfill the criteria of a modern, enlighten, moderate and in real sense democratic state. In brief, Pakistan is for giant landlords and giant land lords are for Pakistan. Because the supreme privileged class in Pakistan are giant land owners. The said land lords are the top brace privileged class and don't pay a single penny as wealth tax on their vast pieces of fertile agricultural land.

Instead of taxing the above referred class the complete focus of our policy makers have been on increasing sales tax which direct affects the poor people. It means that a land less tenant and his great feudal lord will pay tax equally on their consumption.   Our current rate of sales tax is 18 percent, is is paid by a class IV government employee of grade No. 1 and the top brace bureaucrat of Grade No.22 equally. Is it a matter of justice? The increase in sales tax makes most poor as already poor class. Because with increasing prices, property prices also rise and rich becomes richest.

In the light of the above, Pakistan should impose huge taxes on the land owned by our feudal lords. Because it is the only way out for bringing economic stability. Because imposition of land reforms is a far cry and there are many hurdles and hindrances in imposition of land reforms.
